Captains Blog 17 – 30 June 2016

June 17th – Today was perfect as we spent the day with some friends. We ended up buddy boating all the way up to Amelia Island. We enjoyed a beautiful lunch followed by sundowners aboard their boat. Pure awesomeness!

June 18th – The kids had a blast today doing all types of jumps off the boat and riding Taco around! We always enjoy music, snacks and drinks on the bow! I just love how all my kids enjoy spending time with us talking and snuggling!

Aboard our lovely boat, S/V Lazy Gecko

June 19th – We beached the dinghy on Fort Clinch today and spent an afternoon exploring the history that took place here. On our way out I asked the guide what was down a path leading into the bushes and he looked at me with a confused grin…”Didn’t you come through that way?” he asked. I replied with no, we actually brought our dinghy here. His expression changed to worry. He told us that they have been talking about us over the radio and the FWC was on the way to our dingy now to gove us a ticket because beaching a dinghy there was illegal…He advised us to hurry up and get back to the dinghy. We quickly ran back to Taco in hopes that she was still there and hadn’t been towed away. Now we aren’t sure if we will be getting a ticket in the mail or not but as long as Taco is home with us, then we’re happy!

June 20th – Taco took us to Cumberland Island today! It was absolutely amazing to see all the wildlife. While walking through the trails we saw a buck, skunk and at the end of our path it opened to a large field of wild horses…talk about amazing!

June 21st – The kids and Dad took Taco up to Georgia today! The kids liked the idea of being so close that they could just cross over the Florida and Georgia line so we did just that and visited a marina where there was a Pirate Ship. Very cool! Dolphins were all over the place, being that close to them is awesome.

June 22nd – Uploading videos has become rather challenging these days, since the kids were needing a little “land time” we thought we’d take them to the club house. The video could upload with their wifi, so that knocks two stones out! They enjoyed playing video games while Momma Gecko watched some reality tv!

June 23rd – Went out at sea today for the first time on the Gecko – Rhys got a little sea sick :(…Overall, it was an amazing sail up the coast. The kids and Dad got to do some tacking and I got to relax a bit. Loved it and can’t wait to get back out there!

June 24th – At anchor with the kids! Jess came up with the term “moonlighters” as a name for our drinks instead of “sundowners” since we missed sunset because we had been sailing for 10 hours. Great idea Jess!

June 25th – Broke video camera today! Note to self…Water does shoot over the bow when going out to sea and cameras are not waterproof! Time to get a new one I guess.

June 29th – We went to a marina shower today. Jessica, Rhys and I waited in the common area for the boys to finish their shower. As we sat there we began to realize how sick another lady was, she was in the common area as well. She just sat there coughing away and kept trying to talk to us.  I heard her mumble to her husband that she couldn’t even hear because her ears were so bad…We blasted out of there. I just don’t understand how when someone is that sick they just continue to sit in a public area. Stay in your boat instead of going to watch TV where you’ll get others sick. Nobody wants a bunch of sick kids!

June 30th – We arrived in St Augustine today! Ran aground and called our tow service which was actually good because we learned about how much our tow package really has. It wasn’t a big deal…Lots of boats run aground there because the bottom shifts often. Oh well!
